George (Rob) Porter Robinson, Jr, 82, Passed Away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, In Newport. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at 5:00 p.m., at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, Jacksonville. Pastor Dwight Williams will be officiating and his burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. with Military Honors. Mr. Robinson retired from the military after serving 4 years in the Navy aboard the "USS Princeton", then 18 additional years in the Air Force, reaching the rank pf Master Sergeant. Mr. Robinson began a second career as a license examiner for the State of North Carolina serving as examiner in Morehead City and later senior examiner in Jacksonville. He also helped establish the examiner's office at Camp Lejeune before retiring from the State Department of Transportation. Rob was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9960, located in Swansboro, NC. He was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Beverly Foote Robinson, of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Ebert and husband John of Newport NC, Kelly Zeigler and husband Raymond of Hampton VA, Tracey Horne and husband James of Houston TX. Step-children, Marianne Gilbert and husband Tommy of Angier, NC, E. Randal Lockhart of Morehead City, NC, Karen Herbin-Davis of Wake Forest, NC, and Richard Lockhart and wife Joan of Sunset Beach, NC; Grandchildren, Kristina Garner, Michael Zeigler and wife Andrea, Nathan Zeigler and wife Lauren, Amber Horne, Thomas Gilbert and wife Lindy, and Damon Lockhart; Great Grandchildren, Hannah Garner-Chappell, Collin Garner, Ruy Zeigler, Liam Zeigler, Alanna Zeiler, Jude Zeigler, and Josilyn Gilbert; one brother, Edward Robinson and wife Judith; two sisters, Marcella Stansbury and Betty Gorman. He always had a joke to tell or a song to sing. He loved his family and friends. He was honorable and courageous. There are not enough words to say about this good man. He will be sorely missed by so many who loved him. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Regiment, 3025 John Quick Rd., MCB Quantico, VA 22134, c/o Charitable Donations Coordinator. Make checks payable to Dept. of Navy Gift Fund with memo line to State Wounded Warrior Regiment.
