HAMLIN, Phyllis Ann age 82, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Phyllis is a 53 year resident of Kettering but a native of Middletown. She was born on March 28, 1930 to the late Roy W. and Eva M. Hazelwood. This sincere, caring and easy going lady liked people and always looked and found the best in all she knew and met. She put all first before herself. When Phyllis had her druthers, she'd rather be helping others! Fond of pets and all wildlife, she always made certain the birdbath and feeder were full. She so loved to watch through the kitchen window, the splashing of her feathered friends taking their baths. She graduated from Middletown High School where she was elected to the Homecoming Court. Phyllis graduated from Ohio Wesleyan with a Bachelors of Science in Education and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and a proudly serenaded "Sweetheart of Sigma Chi". After her freshman year at OWU, she was selected to the College Board by Rike's Department Store where she advised future collegians on campus life and needed wardrobe. Phyllis taught elementary school in the Middletown, Lima and Mansfield School Districts. Phyllis married Tom Hamlin, her college sweetheart, and together they have had 59 years of loving happiness, adventure and companionship. She loyally and devotedly supported his career moves in radio and television. Together they lived and made homes in Portsmouth, Lima, Mansfield, and Birmingham, AL. They settled in Kettering when Tom joined WHIO-TV. After raising her family, she launched a second career as a successful executive job and employment counselor. Phyllis handled all media credentials for the 1969 national PGA championship hosted by the NCR Golf Club and volunteered at Nearly New Clothing Charity for Children's Hospital. Her hobby was collecting teddy bears. She assembled a small but varied grouping from various countries around the world. This developed from her junior high days at Roosevelt Junior High where those cuddly teddies were the school mascot! Phyllis left behind to cherish her memory her husband of 59 years, Tom; children, Margo (Bill) Hutchison of Shoreview, MN and Chuck (Terri) Hamlin of Centerville, OH; grandchildren, Luke and Ellie Hutchison and Dustin, Eric and Hannah Hamlin and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Doliboa of Franklin, OH. Her funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00am, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Lebanon Cemetery. A special thanks to the staff of Wood Glen Alzheimer's Community, Brighton Gardens and Hospice of Dayton for their dedicated care of Phyllis these last months. Memorial contributions may be made to Miami Valley Chapter, 3797 Summit Glen Dr Suite G100, Dayton, OH 45449.
