He was retired as a Chief Gunner's Mate G with the U.S. Navy. And, he was an appliance repairman. He attended Piney Grove Baptist Church.
He was survived by his wife, Lillian (Cook) Simpson (married May 16, 1955); his daughter, Judy Elaine Whitaker of Science Hill, Kentucky; his brothers, James Franklin Simpson of Jacksonville, Florida, Norman L. Simpson of Shopville, Kentucky, William D. Simpson of Somerset, Kentucky, and Albert S. Simpson of Jacksonville, Florida; his sisters, Nannie J. Phelps of Shopville, Kentucky, Mariah E. Bray of Jacksonville, Florida, and Frances E. Nichols of Panama City, Florida; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin Simpson and Lillian Estella (Turner) Simpson; his son, Rodger Wesley Simpson; and his brother, Thomas J. Simpson.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Brother Grant Hardwick officiating.
