Frank J. McIntosh, 95, of San Francisco passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015. A life-long San Franciscan, Frank was born on March 2, 1920 to the late Mae Bridget Walsh and Alexander Hugh McIntosh. While he had many passions in life, the most notable was his love of airplanes. As a young boy all he wanted to do was fly, and on December 7, 1941 at the age of 21, he got his chance. The day after the attack on Pearl Harbor Frank enlisted in the Army Air Corp with the intention to fight for his country by air. Frank went on to make a name for himself in the Air Force as well as San Francisco, becoming a local hero with his famous P-38 "Little Mae" named after his mother. Frank received the Distinguished Flying Cross from General James Doolittle, the Air Metal and 10 citations for the Oak Leave Cluster. He was also chosen to fly escort for Winston Churchill during his historic meeting with President Roosevelt.
After the war Frank worked for the City and County of San Francisco's Real Estate Department where, after 44 years, he retired in 1988. Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Hugh and John McIntosh and his sisters Josephine and Alice Field. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, his sister, three children and five grandchildren.
Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name Church on Thursday, November 5. A Committal Burial Service with Military Honors will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
