Warren T. George, 93, of Billings, passed away at St. John’s Hospice Home on Sept. 28, 2014, from lung cancer.

He was born Feb. 15, 1921, the fourth of five siblings to Harmon and Vivia George of Akron, Colo. They moved back and forth between Colorado and Iowa to finally settle in Greeley, Colo. where he graduated from high school in 1940.

He joined the National Guard in Greeley in March of 1940. The Guard was mobilized Sept. 16, 1940, and was part of the 45th Division. In 1942, he left the 45th Division with the rank of Staff Sergeant to attend Officer’s Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Ga.

He was commissioned 2nd Lt. on July 15, 1942, and was sent to Ft. Riley, Kan. to join the 9th Armored Division. Later he was transferred to England and France and then to the Luxembourg/Germany border where he was injured and spent three months in a hospital in England. He was then reassigned to the 357th Reinforcement Company in La Havre, France.

Warren was discharged on Dec. 24, 1945, with the rank of Captain. He rejoined the National Guard until 1947. While he was attached to the 9th Armored in the European Theater, he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy. He served 5 years, 4 months and 11 days to help insure our rights as a free and democratic society. He met and married LaVerna Luschei at Ft. Riley where she was serving as an Army Nurse.

After WWII, he attended the National Institute of Dry Cleaning in Maryland. With his wife and son, Warren T. George, Jr., they moved to Superior, Wyo., in 1948, for a short time. While there, their daughter, Judith was born. They moved to Billings in 1952, where he started Cinderella Cleaners and years later, developed it into a mini mall known as Cinderella City.

He was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1978. At that time, his son joined his wife to run the business while he fought the cancer. Eight years later, he was in full remission. The family retired from Cinderella Cleaners in 1995, but retained ownership of Cinderella City Mini Mall until Feb. 2014.

During his time in Billings, he worked many hours to develop a successful business. He also golfed, painted fantastic oil and watercolors, and proved to be an innovative inventor.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, four siblings, his wife, LaVerna, in 2007 and his son Warren T. George, Jr. in 2011. He is survived by his daughter, Judith, and son-in-law, George Myers of Oak Harbor, Washington, five grandchildren, Adam, Colby, Amy, Melissa and Heather; eight great-grandchildren – Ashlee, John, James, Hunter, Emma, Hannah, Kiawna, and Avery.
