Mr. Larry Fernandas Keaton, age 63, of West Horah Street, died of a brain tumor (cancer) at W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center Hospice Care. He was in declining heath for eight months and seriously ill for four days. He was born Dec. 21, 1951, in Salisbury to the late Fernandas C. (Bud) and Lula Wilks Keaton.

Larry grew up in the West End neighborhood on Horah Street. He attended Monroe Street School and J.C. Price High School, where he was active in the band. He joined the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was of the Baptist faith and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastoral of the late Rev. William McKinney Wyatt. Larry liked to help people in the neighborhood. He held jobs in the Neighborhood- Janitor Department of Rowan County.

Larry will be missed by his family, neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fernandas C. (Bud) and Lula Wilks Keaton. He is survived by his beloved son, Larry Eugene Keaton (Thomasine) of Granite Quarry; three grandchildren, Tyler E. Keaton, Jonathan S. Keaton and Khalil Oglesby, all of Granite Quarry; his sister and caregiver, Hazel T. Keaton of the home; special aunt, Mrs. Eva Mae Jones of Salisbury; special cousins Dennis J. Wilks of Salisbury, Loretta Walls (Amatullah Yamin) of Greensboro and Tina McCray of Colonial Height, Va.; and other cousins of Seneca , S.C.

Arrangements: Funeral services will be 12 noon and visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 29 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Pastor, Rev. Dr. Nilous Avery, officiating.

Interment with Military rites will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30 at the U.S. National Cemetery. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund. Services are entrusted to Hairston Funeral Home, Inc.
