Betty was born on Feb. 6, 1945, in Abilene to Ted and Betty Sue Darby. Betty was married to William Nicholas Merriman on July 25, 1992, in Wichita Falls.
Betty grew up in Abilene. She was very close to her parents and two sisters. She loved spending time with their extended family at her grandparents’ farm outside of Abilene in Caps. Betty was an avid gardener and achieved Master Gardener status and was very active in the local Gardening Club. She also had a deep love for animals and raised Labrador Retrievers. She was a volunteer at the Humane Association. She was at her happiest working with the earth and with animals. Betty attended Howard-Payne University in Brownwood. She was a voracious reader, always having a book or her Kindel in hand, sharing book recommendations with anyone who would listen. She also loved Sudoku and any brain-teasers. She loved to crochet, needlepoint, and sew, regularly contributing her creations to family and friends. She crocheted beautiful baby blankets for all of her grandchildren.
