Mabel A. "Mert" Mathias passed away February 20, 1997 at her home in Salt Lake City, UT.

Born October 30, 1910 in Memphis, Texas, to Thomas and Anna Post Ellison. Married Kenneth R. Mathias, September 6, 1930 in Lovelock, NV. He died January 6, 1964. Mert made her home in Salt Lake City for the past 52 years. She loved her gardening and was an avid fan of the Utah Jazz. Her children and many grandchildren were very special to her.

She is survived by a son, Kent "Skip" (Sharon) Mathias, Kearns, UT; daughters, Karen (Gordon) Olmstead, San Diego, CA; Noella (Jim) Tate, Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sisters Lee Rutherford, and Audrey Stout, both of CA; and her very special friend, Bill Seddon. Preceded in death by two brothers and a grandson.

Graveside services 1 p.m., Monday, February 24, 1997 at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City. Friends may call at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive from 11-12:30 p.m. prior to services.
