Gordon Fisher, age 95, of Red Wing died of natural causes at his residence on Wednesday morning, October 28th, 2015.

He was born May 21, 1920 in Waukesha, Wisconsin to James and Emma Fisher. He graduated from Waukesha High School in 1938 and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison for 3-1/2 years before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps in January, 1942. He served as a Captain in the 321st Transport Squadron in Europe and flew over 22 different models of airplanes during the war. He was discharged in October of 1945. He continued in the Air Force Reserve and retired as Lt. Colonel in 1980.

On September 21, 1945, Gordon married Janet Kramer in Waukesha. He then flew for American Overseas Airlines out of New York. They lived on Long Island before moving to Red Wing in late 1947. He worked at Kramer's Hatchery until 1959 when Red Wing Shoe Co. President, Bill Sweasy, approached Gordon with the idea of piloting their new corporate airplane. He loved flying and often said he had the best job in the world! He flew for them until 1977 when heart problems permanently grounded him. "The Shoe" transferred him to the advertising department, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation in Minneapolis. He belonged to the YMCA for over 60 years. Besides playing volleyball, he served on numerous committees, including the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the American Legion and also served on the Red Wing Airport board. He was a member of the R.W. Male Chorus and sang with a Barbershop Quartet for a number of years. He enjoyed gardening and reading and loved being up at the Fisher cabin in northern Wisconsin with his family and friends. He will be remembered by so many in the community as being friendly to everyone. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick smile.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Susan (Dennis) McCabe of Warrensburg, Missouri, Barbara (Gary) Eliason of Northfield, MN and Debbie Fisher of Minneapolis; six grandchildren, Melanie and Kristen McCabe, Peter Eliason, Ann Eliason LaPorte, John and Erik Eliason; three great grandchildren and one brother, Clark of Prairie Village, Kansas. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Fisher Lumb.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, 602 Plum Street, Red Wing, MN. on Saturday, November 7th, from 9:30-10:30. Please join us in celebrating Gordy's life! A private family burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the YMCA, American Heart Association or Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation.
