She was born April 25, 1912, in the town of Estella, Chippewa County, to William and Lottie Smith.
Dora was married to Bert Ellis on Jan. 23, 1939. Although she and Bert had no children of their own, they raised Dora's niece, Barbara Walker until Barbara, at the age of 14, was reunited with her mother in California. Dora was a devoted wife and mother.
She loved to garden and for many years raised and canned much of their produce. For several years she worked with the Girl Scouts in Cornell and enjoyed so much her interaction with the children.
Dora worked many years for Prentice Hardware and last but not least she worked as a grandmother at the Cornell Elementary School. Dora loved working with the children and helping the teachers in the classroom.
She felt a real loss when, at the age of 80, she had to leave the children and settle into retirement.
In her retirement she spent many hours embroidering pillow cases and dish towels to give to her family and friends.
She is survived by: her sister, Edna Smith; niece-daughter, Barbara Walker, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; five brothers, Howard, Charles, Steve, Hank and Robert Smith; two sisters, Mildred Ellis and Nina Walker.
Funerals services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the Faith Baptist Church followed by burial in Cornell Cemetery.
Friends may call one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Contributions in Dora's memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Research Center, 640 Jackson Street, St. Paul, MN 55101.
