No tombstone has been found in the Sonora Cemetery. His obituary from the Devils River News states he would be interred at the Sonora Cemetery.

Not much is known about Cody's early life. There is a Coda Roberts age 9 in the 1860 Burnet County, Texas census, but we can't find him in the 1870 census. It is believed that John Roberts family moved to Coryell County where I surmise John died and Cody's step-mother married Daniel Webster Edwards. Cody had a son William Edward Roberts in 1871 in Coryell County, per Ed's obituary which states some of his Chant/Roberts step/half-siblings. Cody married widow Martha Connell Chant in 1879 in Coryell County. She had five Chant children ten years old and younger. The Roberts family moved in the mid-1880's down to Vance, Real, Texas near Martha's mother and brothers where they raised stock and lived off the land. Cody and Martha had seven Roberts children. Their oldest and youngest child died in Vance during the same week in 1892. The family moved just west over to Cedar Creek, not far down-stream from Half Moon Prairie and the children's school, Cedar Creek school. Cody worked on some county road projects with some sons in the 1890's. Cody was no longer listed with the family in the 1900 and 1910 censuses so about 1980 we asked Cody's grandson, Clint Crider, what happened to Cody and he stated he died about 1910 in Sonora area. That led us to finding the obituary with the help of JoAnne Palmer of Sutton County. Although Martha remained back on Cedar Creek for some unknown reason, per his obituary, Cody had been working on ranches in the Sonora country the last years of his life.
