William Clinard was the fourth of ten known children of Philip Clinard (1791-1846) and Anna Maria (went by Mary) Sink Clinard (1790-1886).

William married Christina Eliza (or Elizabeth?) Mock (1824-1873) on 06 Aug 1844 at Davidson County, North Carolina. William was a farmer in southern Forsyth County, North Carolina. William and Eliza were the parents of nine known children, namely:

1. Dempsey Brown Clinard (1845-1923)
2. Philip Alpheus Clinard (1848-1849)
3. Flora (Florence?) L. Clinard Essex (1851-1922)
4. Christina Jane Clinard Steed (1854-1921)
5. Mary Louisa Clinard Horney (1856-1891)
6. Jacob Charles Clinard (1859-1899)
7. Margaret Leonora Clinard Horney (1863-1926)
8. Emily J. Clinard Payne (1866-1950)
9. Sarah E. Clinard (1867-1867)
