Gene Arthur (Art) Adams, age 86, of Schererville, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2015. Art is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (nee Brew) Adams; sons: Thomas Adams (Connie) and Joseph (Lisa) Adams; daughters: Katherine (Gary) Augustine, Susan Adams, Amy (Greg) Moses; seven grandchildren: John (Misty) Totzke, Kristen Totzke, Sarah Moses, Cameron Moses, Allison Moses, Matthew Adams & Meghan Adams; and brother James Adams. He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Adams; his parents Frank Adams and Genevieve (Homrich) Adams; and brother Thomas Adams. Art was a decorated Korean War veteran and a proud U.S. Marine. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for his service to our country, along with a Letter of Commendation, U.N Service Medal and Korean Service Medal. He was part of Item Company, Third Battalion, First Marines. He worked for 30-plus years for Indiana Bell (AT&T). He was born in Hammond, IN, graduated from Bishop Noll Institute in 1948, and lived in Schererville since 1955. Art was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and made many outdoors trips with family and friends. Art was a renowned storyteller who could fill a room with laughter. Deacon Duane Dedelow officiating.
