CPL Craig Philip Averill, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Fayetteville, NC.
Corporal Craig Philip Averill was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, CPL Averill served our country until March 26th, 1968 in Thua Thien, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that Craig died from multiple fragmentation wounds. His body was recovered. Craig was born on April 27th, 1948 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. CPL Averill is on panel 46E, line 027 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.
He served as a Corporal with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, USARV.
He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal and The National Defense Service Medal.
