Howard Glenn Black, 89, of Rushville, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at his home in Rushville.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Rushville Christian Church, with Rev. George Baugh, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, October 30, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorials are suggested to Rushville Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Words of sympathy and remembrance may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Howard was born March 12, 1926 in Platte County, Missouri, the son of James Fly and Lena Pearl (Cox) Black. Howard attended Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO and served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II where he participated in the Battle of Tarawa on board the LST 590. Howard was employed as an electrician by the LFM Steel Foundry in Atchison and later retired from Rockwell International in 1984. Howard was an Elder of the Rushville Christian Church, Charter Member of the Rushville Lions Club, President of the Buchanan R-IV School District, Past President of the Sugar Creek Christian Benevolent Burial Association, original member of the Rushville Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Village of Rushville Board of Trustees and American Legion Post #6.

On May 17, 1947, Howard was united in marriage to Charlotte Irene Griffin. To this union, four children were born, Gary Eugene, Dennis Ray, Carole Lynne and Glenn William. After celebrating 68 years of marriage, Charlotte preceded Howard in death on August 29, 2015. Howard was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis Ray Black; seven brothers, James, Edward, Hutson, Chester, William, Roy and Ernest; two sisters, Virginia and Anna; and a great grandson, James Edward Black.

Survivors include three children: son, Gary (Claudia) Black, Rushville; daughter, Carole Lynne (Robert) Gering, Winchester, KS; son, Glenn (Martha) Black, DeKalb, MO; six grandchildren, Edward (Holly) Black, Elizabeth (Chad) Johnson, Heather (Jeffery) Ogle, James (Lisa) Black, Stephen Black, Hannah Black and eight great grandchildren, Ayden Black, Elijah Black, Emma Johnson, Isabella Black, Garrette Ogle, Claire Johnson, Blake Ogle and Molly Johnson; his sister, Lena Smith.
