Ruby Maxine Chase, 93, of Grantville, KS, formerly of Mayetta, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in Topeka. She was born May 26, 1922 in Denison, KS the daughter of Charley A. and Mabel E. (Way) Renfro. Ruby graduated from Mayetta High School in 1940. In 1965, she began working as a Postal Clerk in Grantville, was appointed Postmaster in March of 1973 and retired in 1984. She was a lifetime member of O.E.S. in Mayetta, past member of National Association of Postmasters of the United States and the Kansas Old Time Fiddlers Pickers and Singers. Ruby had attended the Potawatomi United Methodist Church in Mayetta. She married Amos K. Chase on October 5, 1940 in Lyndon, KS. He preceded her in death on September 24, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Vaught and 2 brothers, Walter and Charles Renfro. Survivors include 2 daughters, Linda Brink of Auburn, KS and Nancy Jo Rush of Perry, KS; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with burial to follow in the Mayetta Cemetery. Ruby will lie in state beginning Wednesday evening at the funeral home and the family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the Potawatomi United Methodist Church c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
