Gerald G. Fischer, 84, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Lareene Leas Fischer with whom he was married 57 years. A lifelong Columbia resident, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Agnes Kaufhold Fischer. A graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, he proudly served in the U.S Navy during the Korean War. He retired in 1992 from Caterpillar, Inc. where he worked as a metallurgist. He also was a self-employed electrical contractor.

Gerry was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia and was the long time caretaker of Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2294; Susquehanna Fire Company; lifetime member of the Red Rose Memorial Post 2435, V.F.W.; the Susquehanna Chapter and Centerville Chapter of A.A.R.P. He enjoyed being outdoors and going to the casinos.

He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

In addition to his wife are his children, Kim wife of Dave Smuck; George Fischer and his wife Sherri; Keith Fischer; Amy wife of Joseph Smith; grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsay, Eric, Alana, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Alex, Nathan; great granddaughter, Madelyn; sister, Lorraine Ziegler and brother, Richard Fischer, MD. He was preceded in death by his siblings Mildred Johnson; Donald Fischer; Joseph Fischer and Robert Fischer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 11:00am with the Rev. Kenneth F. Lawrence, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Friends may view at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Tuesday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:30pm. An additional viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00am until 10:45am. Kindly omit flowers.
