John Willis Rotan, Sr was the son of John A Rotan and Sarah Robinson. He married Zemila Ann Askew in 1847 Polk County, Texas. They were the parents of Sarah, Rufus, William Thomas, James Casey, Mary Texana, and John Willis, Jr. He died before the birth of John Willis, Jr. Adding to the confusion of John Willis Rotan, Jr is that he named his son Jr, not the 3rd. The Pecos County, Texas obit of son John states that John, Sr was the first sheriff of Polk County, Texas. However no record of that has been located. Probate was in Polk County, Texas 1859. 1860 has the family still in Polk County.They are found in 1870 in Hopkins County, Texas. All children are accounted for except for Rufus R Rotan (Abt 1851-aft 1870) last found with his mother in 1870.
