Maria~~Neighbor and Friend

Spoke to her 21 year old cat, Bejou, in Greek

Picked the large dandelion leaves from her garden to cook and eat

Made incredible baklava and other Greek pastries

Had no wrinkles on her face in her eighties

Wore a sweater over her housedress in her garden when the temperature was in the 90s.

Wonderful Maria. We miss you.

Obituary, Tribune and Desert News (Salt Lake City, Utah), Dec. 20, 1995

Maria (George) Deliezas Kepros fell asleep in the Lord at approximately 2:30 p.m. on December 18, 1995. Her life was full and her last days were peaceful and kept free of pain.

She was born in Piraeus, Greece on January 3, 1906 to Panayotis Emmanouil and Stamatina Boukosis Deliezas. On February 23, 1932, she was married to the love of her life, George Nicholas Kepros, in Kranidion, Greece. They spent their early years operating the Uinta-Fillmore Grocery in Salt Lake City. On her husband's death, June 30, 1955, she firmly kept the family intact.Maria is survived by her sons, Nicholas, New York, N.Y.; Peter, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada; and John, Salt Lake City; by a granddaughter, Stephanie Kepros Forsythe, also Fredericton, NB; and by several nephews and nieces in Greece.

She was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church and an active member of Philoptohos. Until age limited her activity, she was a tireless worker at the annual Greek Festival.

Although she thought of herself as a simple homemaker, she was proud of her several years of work at Ajax Pressing Machines, where she put her professional sewing skills to commercial use.

A period of visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. will be held at the Salt Lake Memorial Mausoleum, 1001 East 11th Avenue, on Wednesday, December 20, 1995 with Trisagion services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Thursday, December 21, 1995, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The family requests donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Hellenic Cultural Museum or to the Greek Orthodox Church.
