On September 3, 1966, he married Shirley A. Bradley in Boyne City, Michigan. They were residents of the Mt. Pleasant and Weidman area since 1967. Harry worked for thirty-five years for the Chippewa Hills School System, for many years as a principal at Mecosta Elementary after teaching for many years. Harry never left the educational field. After retiring as Principal of Mecosta Elementary he went to work for the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District as the Pupil Accounting Officer as well as assisting with Federal Programs for several districts. After leaving the ISD he worked exclusively for the Chippewa Hills School District as the Director of Federal Programs a position he was doing at his time of death.
Butch was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant, he was a past member of the Weidman Lions Club, and a member of several professional associations including the Michigan Association of Elementary Principals.
He enjoyed woodworking and built many toys and projects for his children and grandchildren.
Harry is survived by his wife of forty nine years, Shirley, and three grandchildren that he adored more than anything, Michaela Kessler, Alyssa McNeill and Peyton Garcia. He also adored his three daughters and their husbands, Kim and Mike Kessler of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Kelly and Carlos Garcia of Orlando, Florida and Krista and Tim McNeill of Weidman. Also surviving are two sisters and their husbands, Louise and Jim Bradley of Charlotte, Michigan and Jeanie and Bruce Nelson of Boyne City, Michigan and a sister-in-law Jean Welch of Orlando, Florida, along with nieces Kayla, Teresa and Tina and a nephew Patrick.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Harry’s life was held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Dana Hendershot officiating. A luncheon followed in the Fellowship Hall after the funeral service. Burial took place in Fairview Cemetery, Weidman later in the day.
