Marvin Goodson was born in Sacramento, California on November 6, 1918. He grew up in Berkeley, California, graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1941, received his law degree from Loyola University of Los Angeles (J.D., cum laude) in 1950, and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1954. He was admitted to the California bar in 1951, the U.S. Tax Court in 1952, and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1976. An innovator and expert in the tax and estate planning fields, Marvin is generally acknowledged as the "Father" of the Family Trust, which he created in 1952.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mae; his daughters Marilyn Ronney (Phil) and Carolyn Heitmann (John); his grandchildren, Douglas Ronney (Karen), Jackie Thomas, Mira Wysong (Greg), and Joshua Silverman (Liz); and his great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brooke, Julia, Megan, Jake, Evan, Avery, and Amelie. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fannie, his father, Abraham, and his brother, Mark.

In addition to his family and many friends, Marvin leaves behind a legacy of love, charity and good works.
