BARBOURVILLE — Amy Bays Gibson West, 97,
of Bowling Green, and formerly of Artemus,
died July 7, 2010, in a Bowling Green nursing home.
The Knox County native was born Nov. 26, 1912.
She was a retired school teacher of 36 years, having taught in Knox, Whitley and Harlan counties, Gary, Ind., Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond and the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg.
She was a member of Artemus Baptist Church, attended the East Barbourville Baptist Church and was a resident of Bowling Green Retirement Village.
She was a daughter of the late Greenberry Bays and Sarah Matilda Partin Bays,
and the wife of the late Kermit Gibson, who she married Oct. 13, 1934,
and Whit Ray West, who she married May 25, 1956.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Stewart Snyder and her husband, Bob; a grandson, Shawn Vokurka; a great-grandson, Keenan Stewart; and three sisters, Elsie Bray, Lovinnia Green and Roberta Bain.
Funeral is at 3 p.m. EDT Saturday at Hopper Funeral Home, with burial in Barbourville Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Janice Vokurka and her husband, John, of Bowling Green; a brother, Rufus Bays, of Artemus; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
