During the Battle of the Bulge, while commanding a unit of armoured jeeps in the area of Bure (Luxembourg, Belgium), his vehicle was hit by a German anti-tank gun. Paul Renkin, his driver Claude Hennequin de Villermont and gunner Emile Lorphevre were killed.
This crew is remembered at Bure with a memorial on the spot where they lost their lives in combat. This memorial is known as the "Renkin Cross" (La Croix Renkin).
A memorial plaque is also fixed to the wall of the communal church of Bure.
