Born in Burke County, NC on January 28, 1944, he was the son of the late Erastus Woodrow Dockery and Dollie Henrietta Farr Dockery.
Mr. Dockery was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church and loved to fish.
Mr. Dockery is survived by his wife, Sue Milligan Dockery; two children, John Alfred Dockery, Jr. of Morganton and Wendy Dockery Lawson and Roland of Hot Springs, NC; two grandchildren, Reagan Dockery and Grace Lawson; a sister, Sara Vicente of Morganton; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Brown and Stacy Lawson; nieces, Cassi Dellinger and Andromeda Fry; and nephew Arcturus Fry.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday at Catawba Valley Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Catawba Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Odom and Rev. Allen Curtis officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
