He was the son of a Guy Hulett, born in Reading, Vermont in 1797, the latter being a brother of John Mathewson and Nehemiah Hulett, two early residents of the Rockton area. The elder Guy Hulett was an early settler of Rockton who later went to LaSalle, Illinois. The biogrphical details of the two Guy Hulett's have been much confused by the early historians. The younger Guy Hulett's monument says that he was born in 1823. He married in Winnebago County 26 March 1848 to Adaline Blake, and they were the parents of six children, of whom only two of their daughters survived to adulthood. About 1858 or 1859 the family moved to Arapahoe, Kansas where their last child was born. In 1860 they removed once again to Central City, Gilpin County, Colorado where he later committed suicide. His widow married secondly to William Snook. The names of Guy Hulett's children are all listed on his monument, but there is some uncertainty whether he, or how many of his children, are buried there. He was the father of Alta M. Hulett (1854-1877) who was the first woman admitted to the Illinois Bar. Her name appears on their monument along with the other children, however she is not buried there. Alta died in National City, California and is buried there at Mount Hope Cemetery.
