Son of Frank Dow & Ida M. Godfrey Dow.

Harry served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24H "Born To Lose" #41-29258, 719th Bomber Squadron, 449th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Chittenden County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 30, 1942 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Bartender and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24H #41-29258 took off from Grottaglie, Italy on a bombing mission over Bucharest, Romania. They were attacked by German Fighters and were shot down and crash near the Danube River south of Bucharest during the war. Parachutes were seen to be leaving the B-24 by other planes in the area.

Harry was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on June 13, 1950.

Service # 11056102

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
