Obituary for James Edward Butcher

James Edward Butcher of Petersburg, Virginia gained his ultimate healing from cancer on April 27, 2023. Jim was born on July 8, 1957 in Petersburg, Virginia to Joyce Bennett Butcher of Chesterfield and the late Richard F. Butcher.

Jim was an executive Bridal Consultant for Macys until his early retirement in 2013. He had a love of historical homes and spent a lifetime collecting antiques, always browsing auctions and antique shops for a great deal on that next perfect piece of furniture, artwork or glassware. Jim loved spending time in the mountains of Randolph County, West Virginia and Montebello, Virginia. Christmas was always a special time of year with decorating becoming a grand tradition.

Surviving Jim is his partner Eric "Steven" Huffstutler of Petersburg; three sisters, Pat Piner of Colonial Heights, Barbara White of South Chesterfield and Pam (Steve) Gohn of Williamsburg; nephew, Christopher (Jennifer) Scott of Hopewell; niece, Jamie (Michael) Jackson of Richmond; aunts, Elaine Yeatts of Petersburg, Ruby (Herbert) Lewis of Dinwiddie; and a special cousin, Sharon (Mark) Howell of Elkins, West Virginia who was Jim's caregiver in his final days. Also surviving are great nephews, Nathaniel and Brandon Scott, Carter and Brayden Jackson, and Sharon's children, Brody, Katelyn and Jacob, along with many cousins and countless friends. Jim also leaves behind his beloved dog, his "little boy" Jax.

Preceding Jim in death were his grandparents, Elmer (Ethel) Butcher, Bernice Butcher, and Edward (Cora) Bennett; sister and brother in law, Debra (Joe) Uzzle; nephew, Steven Lewis; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jim will be sorely missed, leaving behind a legacy of love and a life well lived. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home in Petersburg. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel followed by a Celebration of Life at the Petersburg Country Club. Private graveside services will be at Jim's final resting place, the Beverly Cemetery in Beverly, West Virginia.
