Born in Savannah, Georgia, to Monford Owen Blackburn, Sr., and Maggie Belle Morgan, Peggy was the forth of six children. She grew up in Garden City and was a charter member of Chapel-in-the-Gardens Presbyterian Church.
On April 12, 1947, Peggy married Robert Carl Pahnke, a veteran of World War II who served in the US Navy. After 26 years of marriage, Bob preceded her in death in 1973. Peggy was survived by three children and eight grandchildren.
She was employed by Shelby Mutual Insurance Company as a supervisor and retired in 1990, then moved to Wake Forest, NC, where she lived to her final days. Her journey through life had brought her with her salesman husband and growing family from Georgia, to Maryland, then Texas, and finally to North Carolina, but she always considered Savannah as her home.
