Gale Lamar Stewart, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Sunday March 24, 2013 at home. He was born January 25, 1928 in Camden to Ben and Pauline (Gilbert) Stewart. He was married September 9, 1972 to M. Joyce Shaw and she survives.
Gale was a graduate of Camden High School and attended the Lansing Business University. He retired as a meat cutter from Hillsdale Market House in 1989. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a member of American Legion Post #53 in Hillsdale. Gale enjoyed wood working, fishing, sailing and gardening.
Surviving besides his wife Joyce are his son, Mark C. Stewart of Reading; a step-daughter April (Michael) Freed of Camden; three step-sons, Patrick (Denise) Nivison of Hillsdale, Todd Nivison of Toledo, and Jeffrey (Mary) Nivison of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister Jean White of Montgomery; sister-in-law, Janice Kizer of Hillsdale; eight grandchildren, Jessica Stewart, India Draper, Autumn Ruhl, Shane Freed, Nina Kirk, Amber Macrum, Timothy Nivision, Jeb Morris and Thomas Woodburn; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Angela Gale (Stewart) Draper.
A memorial service for Gale Stewart will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral home in Hillsdale with Pastor Don Harkey officiating. Interment will follow in Camden Cemetery.
Memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Hillsdale County.
