Acker, age 67, of Carrollton, Ala., died October 22, 2015, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Glen Echo Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Burrage officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight, October 24, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to service at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Monica Lynn Acker; brother, Jackie Burrage; sister-in-law, Charlene Burrage; and brothers-in-law, Willis Coates and David Weaver. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Joe Glenn Acker, Sr. of Carrollton, Ala.; daughter, Renee Acker Gant (Preston) of Kosciusko, Miss.; son, Joe Glenn Acker, Jr. (Dana) of Fayette, Ala.; sisters, Sarah Coates of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Sue Weaver of Northport, Ala.; brothers, Danny Burrage (Donna) and Clark Burrage, all of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; six grandchildren, Buddy Acker, Caleb Acker, Timothy Acker, Monica Acker, Lindy Acker and Zachery Gant; one great-granddaughter, Caroline Acker; and a number of nieces and nephews. Cheryl was born August 27, 1948 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Lester Burrage and Eardeal Hayes Burrage. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. Pallbearers will be Allen Koester, Adam Tennyson, Timothy Acker, Heath Trull, Preston Gant, Mike McDaniel, Buddy Acker and Larry McJenkins. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
