James Paul Mays, 79, of McKee, KY went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, surrounded by his family. He was born in Lee County to James Chastus and Dema (Gray) Mays on May 13,1936. James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Mays of McKee and by two children, David Mays and wife Janet of McKee and Vickie Sparks and husband Jeff of Berea. He is also survived by a sister, Ora Lee Lacker of Cincinnati, OH. James was blessed with four grandchildren, David Kyle Mays and Natalie Mays both of McKee and Hayley Sparks and Colby Sparks both of Berea.
In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by four siblings, Hershel Mays, Kenneth Mays, Wilma Jean Mitchell and Lucille Mays.
James was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War and was of the Baptist Faith.
Funeral service was held 2:00PM Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Lakes and Bro. Alex Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Gray Cemetery. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
