Mr. Flaherty was born November 30, 1921 in Sterling, Colorado. Her served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and spent 19 months as a prisoner of war in Germany. He received the Purple Heart and the Air Medal with five clusters. He married Ruth Green in 1946. He ranched many years near Hereford and lived for 13 years in the McNary-Umatilla area.
