Brother of William Payne Loyd
Was the second son to James and Charity Loyd. Stephen died in Detroit, AL. His grave is marked with a Patented Loyd Marker.
Family history shows that he was buried in Ballard Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Stephen was married October 10, 1848 to Mary Jane Evans who was born in 1831 in Marion County, Alabama. Mary Jane is believed to be a relative of Elizabeth Evans, the mother-in-law to Isham J. Loyd.
Stephen was a potter, possibly with his brother Isham, as well as a farmer. The 1850 census of Marion COunty Alabama show him with wife Mary Jane, age 19, and daughter Mahala, age 1. His occupation was given as potter. In the 1860 census he again was noted to be a potter. In addition to Mahulda (Mahala) who was 11, the children of the household were Sara, age 9; James, age 7; Thomas, age 5; William, age 3 and Louezer, age 1. Wife Mary was 30 years old.
Like his brothers, Stephen served in the War Between the States. He was a private and served most of his duty in Mississippi Campaigns. After the war, he returned to the area around Detroit, AL.

Gravesite Details On Aug. 22, 2008 Jerry Owen also made a page for Stephen C. Loyd and put him in the Pine Springs Cemetery. All family accounts have him buried in the Ballard Cemetry with a Patented Loyd Marker.
