William Mortecai Barron was just a boy at the time of his death. His cause of death was a burst appendix, in the state of Colorado. He and his family were returning to Utah from a family reunion with the Qualls family that had taken place in Texas. William complained of a bad stomach pain, but the family did not realize how badly he was in pain or how badly he needed medical attention. The family's thoughts were of just getting him home to rest. They continued on until he passed away. After his death he was taken to a hospital and declared deceased. The other kids in the family were loaded into his uncle's, Merde Lee Qualls, car and were taken home. Left with a dead son in a strange state the Barron family decided to take young William home themselves. Ruby Qualls Barron and her husband Mortecai Barron along with Ruby's mother Kate Qualls loaded into the car with Williams body and drove the remainder of the way home to Salt Lake City, Utah. Kate held her grandson in her arms through the whole trip. William is burried next to where his parents, and some of his siblings would come to be placed along with his grandparents and aunt Pearl.
