Life Legacy
Ida Mae Morant Bennett Oliver, affectionately called “Ma,” the daughter of the late Samuel Rodgers and Maggie Middleton, was born May 28, 1920 in Bonneau, South Carolina. She was reared by her aunt, Catherine Morant.
Ida was educated in the public schools in Berkeley County. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Sumpter Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully on the Senior Choir and the Prayer Band until her health failed.
Ida was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late James Bennett in 1939. From this union, six children were born. One son, Christopher C. Bennett, preceded her in death.
In 1960, Ida was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late George Oliver.
Ida was known for her telephone missionary work. She also had her own “personal daycare center,” where she took care of many children that she loved dearly. “Ma” loved to watch TV Land and the daytime soap operas, along with a love to visit family and friends. She was six days short of her 93rd Birthday, but she will celebrate it in heaven.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three loving daughters, Pearline (Anderson) Shipp of Bonneau, SC, Christine Williams of Cambria Heights, NY and Teretha (Rupert John) Hanna of Long Island, NY; two loving sons, Alonzo James Bennett of Haw River, NC and William (Edna) Bennett of Bonneau, SC; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and loving friends.
