Mark Talbert, 55, Senior Lecturer of Information Technology at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, died suddenly in his home in Ithaca, N.Y, on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015.

He is survived by his loving mother, of Pittsburgh, aunt and uncle, of Pittsburgh; and numerous loving cousins.

Mark was predeceased by his father, the late Norwood K. Talbert; and beloved siblings, the late Susan Ann Talbert and Keith E. Talbert.

Mr. Talbert graduated from Paul Smith's College in hotel and restaurant management in 1983, and earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Professional Studies in hotel administration at Cornell University in 1989 and 1992 respectively.

He founded a professional consulting company in 1989 focused on the design and development of software systems for hospitality management, such as real-time management simulation models.

He traveled the globe conducting hospitality management development seminars, and he taught in management schools throughout the 1990s in Australia, France, Indonesia and Switzerland.

From 1999 to the present, Mr. Talbert taught business computing, modeling, programming, security, system analysis and design at Cornell University School of Hotel Administration, where he received the Ted Teng Dean's Teaching Excellence Award in 2009.

In his many years of teaching, Professor Talbert mentored and encouraged myriads of students, providing recommendations and guidance for their careers and lives.

Mr. Talbert was born on Aug. 20, 1960, in Pittsburgh. He was raised in Olean, N.Y., and later in Manlius, N.Y., where he attended Fayetteville Manlius High School.

There he had many close friends and formed strong connections with neighbors and the community that he sustained throughout his life.

Known for his sense of humor and lively wit, Mr. Talbert was also an avid skier and outdoorsman.

He was devoted to exploring the remote canyons and rivers in the American Southwest.

He was also very devoted to his Catholic faith.

When he was not teaching at Cornell, Mr. Talbert resided in Naples, Fla.

Family will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services Ltd., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, PA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Richard Church, 3841 Dickey Road, Gibsonia, with Father Thomas A. Sparacino as celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Dewitt, N.Y.

Family suggests donations to St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, 5850 Meridian Road, Gibsonia, PA or , 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite E201, Pittsburgh, PA.
