"There has been confusion over the death of Amanda Jane Floyd Gaines, but she filed for Widows Pension on her husband military pension on Sept 22 1879, so apparently she was still living at that time and had not died in either 1866 or 1869. The same pension record shows that their daughter Mary J. Gaines filed for Minor Pension on Aug. 16, 1890. This seems to indicate that her mother Amanda had died in 1890 making Mary J. Gaines eligible for her father's pension. Thus, it appears that Amanda Gaines died in 1890 instead of 1866 or 1869. I uploaded a picture of the Pension record to Amanda's memorial for reference. Thank you."
