CONSTANCE A. “CONNIE” MEANS, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Friday evening, September 11, 2015 on her son Ronald’s birthday, at the Countryside Estates in Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 17th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Cris Decious will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Thursday.

Connie was born on April 29, 1926 at Andover, South Dakota. She attended Brooke School and graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School in 1944. She was married to Richard “Dick” Means on February 1, 1947 at Sioux City, Iowa. She had worked as a waitress in her younger years, raised her children, worked with her husband at Means Paint and Wallpaper, cooked and baked some of her special recipes for Danny’s Sports Spot.

Connie was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and was one of the original members of the Cherokee County Veterans Memorial Committee. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking and baking for her family and friends, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and loved going to the sporting events of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over the years She had been an active supporter of the Cherokee Athletic Booster Club for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lois (Redman) and Melvin Peck, her husband Richard on April 6, 2001, a son Ronald Means in 1968, two brothers Marvin Peck in 1968 and Merlyn Peck in 1992, also several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

She is survived by 5 children: Danny (Pam) Schuver of Cherokee, Iowa; Dwight (Pat) Means of Pine, Arizona; Julia (Doug) Miller of Cherokee, Iowa; Paul (Marcene) Means of Brainerd, Minnesota; Robin Schonrock of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Amy Schuver, Jeff Schuver, Heather Means, Dawn Miller, Damon Miller, Danae Block, Matthew Means, Mitchell Means, Jared Schonrock, Megan Schonrock, Kristy Schmillen and Curtis Schmillen; 20 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in law; also many nieces and nephews.
