Zola is my great-grandmother.
Mary Zola Harward Curtis was born Wednesday, May 6, 1903 in Castle Dale, Utah to Heber Harward and Mary Jane Broadhead.

She married Ruel Curtis on April 16, 1923 in Price, Utah. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on November 14, 1923. Throughout their fifty-seven years of marriage, they resided in Peerless, Utah; Aurora, Utah; Garfield, Utah; the Central City, Liberty Wells, and Sugar House neighborhoods of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Kearns, Utah.

Zola was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several callings in the Church throughout her life. She was a member of the Liberty Ward, Springview Ward, Kenwood Second Ward, Belvedere Ward, Lincoln Ward, and Kearns Thirteenth Ward.

She served as Primary Teacher for more than twenty years and served as First Counselor in the MIA and Relief Society. She was secretary of the Lincoln Ward's Genealogical Committee and later served a Stake Mission. She was active in the PTA and served as a den mother.

Zola worked for several years at the Snelgrove Ice Cream Parlor in Sugar House. She was a lifelong member of the Republican Party.

Zola passed away on Monday, May 19, 1980 at Valley West Hospital (now Pioneer Valley Hospital) in Granger (now West Valley City), Utah of cardiac arrest after being in ill health for several years. She resided at 4852 South 4180 West in the Hoffman Heights neighborhood of Kearns, Utah at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 22, 1980 at 12:00 p.m. in the Kearns Thirteenth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 4232 West 5015 South in Kearns. Calling hours were held on Wednesday, May 21, 1980 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West) in Taylorsville, and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Zola was laid to rest following the conclusion of the funeral services at the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery in Taylorsville.

The family prayer was offered by N. DeVon Curtis.
The prelude and postlude music was offered by Jewel Weston.
The invocation was offered by Dee R. Bradshaw.

Speakers included: Phyrl Black, Robert B. Harbertson, Patriarch Verl Asay, President Lynn Christensen, and Bishop Tommy Givan.
The benediction was offered by William S. Inkley.
The grave was dedicated by President J. Kent Curtis.
Pallbearers included: Darrell Black, Stephen Curtis, David Flink, Donald Flink, Wayne Black, Sherman Curtis, Glenn Flink, John Inkley.
