Glen Lester Carlson, age 92, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Glen was born November 6, 1923 near Stanton, Iowa the son of Carl and Elva (Purcell) Carlson. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1941 and served in the United States Marines returning to Red Oak in 1945. He was united in marriage to Frances Lathrop on March 20, 1946 in Pilot Grove Township of Montgomery County, Iowa. Glen started farming with his father at the Flying A Ranch and started on his own in 1948 south of Red Oak. He and Frances lived near Elliott for 9 years before moving to the farm north of Red Oak where they lived for 47 years moving into town in 2007. Glen was a longtime member of the First Covenant Church and a current member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. Over the years he served and was Past President of the Montgomery County Fair Board and Farm Bureau. He also served on the Crime Stoppers, Montgomery County Supervisors, Montgomery County Board of Health, was a Pilot Grove Township Trustee, and a 50 year member of Cass Lodge #412 of the Masons.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Frances Carlson on September 6, 2015; sister: Lois Hossle; and brother: Lynn Carlson. Survivors include his children: Susan Johnson (Richard) of Minneapolis, MN; Peggy Blackburn (Robert) of Sioux Falls, SD; and Roger Carlson (Kathy) of Red Oak; grandchildren: Lisa Ross (Michael) of Hendersonville, TN; Seth Johnson of Houston, TX; Ingrid Johnson (Rafael Covarrubias-Gutierrez) of Querrataro, QR, Mexico; Ruth Johnson of Minneapolis; Emily Leutgeb (Daniel) of Minneapolis; Timothy Blackburn (Michele) of Sioux Falls; Todd Blackburn of Yankton, SD; Paul Blackburn (Sarah) of Little Rock, AR; Kelly Osheim (Josh) of Red Oak; Tony Carlson (Alix) of Red Oak; Jessie Carlson of Red Oak; and Amanda Carlson; 13 great grandchildren; brothers: Darl Carlson of Red Oak and Dale Carlson and wife Carolyn of Red Oak; brother-in-law: Robert Hossle of Emerson, IA; sisters-in-law: Mary Helen Peterson of Red Oak and Marilyn Carlson of California; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Pastor Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Masonic services will be held 6 PM Friday, August 5, 2016 with visitation with the family to follow until 7:30 PM at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church.
