She was born in Aurora, Mo., on April 20, 1901, the daughter of Mary and Jim Ruth. The family moved to Louray, Kan., in a covered wagon when Elsie was 6 months old. In 1917, the family moved to Matheson, Colo., where she met Roy Ashcraft and married in 1919,
In 1933, they moved to Parma, Idaho, and later to Kuna, Idaho, where they farmed. In 1943, Roy passed away, leaving a 2½-year-old for Elsie to raise. She then sold the farm and moved to Twin Falls and has resided here since.
She held many odd jobs and then worked as a seamstress for many years at the Magic Valley Hospital until retirement. Elsie belonged to the Swinging Sixties Dance Club and the Primrose Rebekah Lodge No. 76 in Twin Falls, the American Legion of Richfield and a local hobby club. Elsie enjoyed all kinds of hand and needle craft projects and playing cards until her failing eyesight forced her to give up what she enjoyed. She bought a cabin at Magic Dam so her family and friends could fish with her, but her real love was dancing.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; and three children, Myrl, Opal and Norma; four sisters; and two brothers. Survivors are Francis (Roberta); daughter-in-law, Lula; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
