A Georgia truck driver was killed Sunday morning in Acadia Parish after the commercial truck he was driving ran off the side of Interstate 10, struck a tree and burst into flames, police said.

The driver, 63-year-old Michael Ransom of Villa Rica, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ransom had been driving a 2010 International Tractor Trailer westbound on I-10 west of LA Highway 91 at the time of the crash, according to a release from the Louisiana State Police.

The cause of the crash, which occurred shortly before 9:40 a.m., remains under investigation. Police said driver impairment is not suspected to have contributed to the fatal wreck.

Mr. Michael Duane Ransom, age 63, of Villa Rica, was born November 16, 1951 in Atlanta, the son of the late Mr. George Edward Ransom and the late Mrs. Gwen Pace Ransom of Fairburn, GA.

He worked as a Truck Driver for Mesilla Valley Transportation for many years.

The family received friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Memorial Services were conducted Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Gilreath officiated.
