Paris Morning News, Sat. Sept. 14, 1918

Mrs. Lorena Scott, wife of J. R. Scott, a well known citizen of the Ambia community, died at 12 o'clock last night after a long illness.

She underwent a serious operation a little over a year ago in Paris and seemed to improve for a while, but later she grew worse and had been confined to her bed for the last two or three months.

Mrs. Scott was fifty-four years old, born in Lamar county November 19, 1863, and had spent all of her life among Lamar county's people, where she has a large number of life-long, true friends by whom her death will be keenly felt.

She was married July 3rd, 1887, to J. R. Scott who survives her.

Before her marriage she was Miss Lorena Parker, daughter of the late Jno. W. Parker, one of the early settlers of the county.

The deceased was a member of the Baptist church from an early life and was a true and devoted Christian.

Besides her husband, she is survived by the following children: Mrs. Rice Hamblin of Ambia, Mrs. Claude Hudson and Miss Ruby Scott, and Patrick, Chas, and Weldon Scott, all of whom live at home.

Besides her own family, she also leaves two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. J. B. Chapman of Cooper, Mrs. Benton Golden of Chillicothe and John and J. B. Parker of Cooper.

The funeral service will be held at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the grave, conducted by Rev. W. B. Kendall. Burial at Evergreen.
