At the age of eleven she moved with her family to Orting, Washington. She left school in her senior year to pursue employment.

She married Terry J. Howard in 1945 and lived in Seattle before moving to Ketchikan, Alaska with their young son Terry. While in Ketchikan two more children joined the family, a son, Bill, and only daughter Barbara.

As Terry was a logger, they moved back to Orting to pursue his vocation. Settled in Puyallup as a base for the family and were joined by two more sons, Fred and Steven. Later moved to the last working logging camp in the United States, Camp Grisdale in the Olympic Mountains. After an accident made it impossible to remain logging, they moved to Puyallup.

After her husband's death in 1965, She went back to school to obtain a GED while working at the Poodle Dog Restaurant in Fife. With her diploma in hand she applied at Boeing and retired from there in 1982.

In her retirement she provided a home and care for her son Bill, who suffered from cerebral palsy until his death. She had lived at Linden Grove Convalescent Center since falling and breaking her hip.

Preceded in death by husband Terry and son Bill, as well as two older brothers and four sisters.
