Professional Football Player. For five seasons (1957 to 1961), he played as a defensive back and punter in the National and American Football Leagues with the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills and Dallas Texans. Born John Connell Johnson, he attended Carrick High School in Pittsburgh, prior to playing collegiate football at the University of Miami (Florida). While with the Hurricanes, he played both offensive and defensive positions and achieved honorable All-American recognition. Selected by the Bears during the 4th round of the 1957 NFL Draft, Johnson totaled 45 regular season NFL and AFL games. In 1960, he held the distinction as being on the roster of the Buffalo Bills' inaugural season in the newly formed American Football League. He was inducted into the University of Miami (Florida) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004. He died following a battle with dementia.
