William Riley Brock was the son of Milton Tate and Cordelia Kesterson Brock. He married Malissa A. Phipps (1873-1898) on 8-2-1891 in Morgan County, TN and after her death married Susie Jane Gann on Jun 14, 1900.He was of English-Scotch-Irish Descent. Mr. Brock was educated in the public schools of Morgan County, member of the Baptist Church; Mason; K.P. Republican. He was elected Sheriff in Aug 1936. Previous to this he was in the lumber business for several years, was Postmaster at Pilot Mountain for 20 years and was store manager for a lumber company. He was the father of ten children: Mrs. Delta Mae Smith, Virgil Brock, Mrs. Mabel Emerson, Otto Brock, Mrs. Bertie Anderson, Ava Brock, Carl T. Brock, Edward Brock, Hazel, William Riley Jr. and 11 grandchildren. He says that his hobby was "making friends". His grandfather Kesterson and his father fought with the Federal forces during the Civil War. Mr. Brock died September 14, 1960, at the age of 84. He is survived by three sisters, Minnie Jane Underwood, Maude Human and Cordelia Gibson. A brother, Sam, predeceased him in death.
