She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago and Chicago Teacher's College, graduating with a degree in education.
She taught for 40 years in the Chicago Public Schools, handling her classes with grace and dignity and rarely had to raise her voice. A look, a simple direction or a piece of Brach's candy and she retained control. Students came back to visit her year after year.
In 1961 she married Donald Roberts, and had 2 daughters and a son who all survive her. She made sure her children had a love for learning and exploring, respect for others, a good work ethic and devotion to family. Always there was lots and lots of love and support for all their endeavors.
Ramona enjoyed traveling with her children and became a confidant and trusted adviser as well as a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. She also gave special attention to her mother in Doris' last years.
She was a 30 year member of Hazel Crest United Methodist church, a leader of the Sunday School and a strong participant in United Methodist Women as president, Chair of Spiritual Growth, co-leader in Bible Study and participant in several fundraising plays. A woman of strong, quiet faith, she faced many challenges in life and never gave up, finding strength in her close relationship with God.
Her best remembered trait was the way she made people, especially her children, feel loved, understood, encouraged and important. She said we were no better than anyone else but were expected to act better than most.
She is survived by three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
