Chico Weekly Chronicle-Record, Saturday, October 25, 1890, pg 1 col 4: Another Pioneer Gone. Dr. Jenkins Died at His Home in Oroville Thursday. At about 11 o'clock Thursday morning, Dr. T.J. Jenkins' lamp of life flickered out, and he breathed his last peacefully, with his family and friends gathered about him, at his home on the corner of Oak and Robinson streets.
For four years the Doctor had been suffering from diabetes, which brought on a complication of other diseases and finally ended his life. For several months past he has been confined to his room and his friends expected death would come and relieve the suffered at any time.
Doctor Thomas Jarrett Jenkins was a native of Kentucky and 65 years old. He came to California in 1849 and settled at Long's Bar in this county. He was one of the founders of the town of Oroville and was the first Auditor and Recorder of Butte. He represented the county in the Legislature. During all of his life he has lived among us practicing medicine and was generally beloved. The deceased was a staunch, life-long Democrat. He leaves a wife, a daughter, Mrs. Dr. Mack, and a son, T.J. Jr., and a very large circle of friends in the county to mourn his loss. The deceased has held high positions in masonry – Oro Mercury.
