Stella Mae Riggs was born the third child out of six children on July 19, 1902 in Oklahoma to Samuel "Sam" M. Riggs and Eva Ward. She married Edmund Franklin "Frank" Edwards on May 15, 1921, and they had a son and two daughters: Jack Edmond, Eva Viola, and Dorothy Ann. By 1930, Stella and Frank parted marital ways. She married two more times to D. A. Johnson and M. C. Yates. Stella died on March 1, 1942 at the age of 39 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
