CANAAN — Harold L. Warner died peacefully at his home at Geer Village in Canaan, Conn. on Oct. 15, 2015.

Born in East Canaan on Dec. 10, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward and Sadie (Mandel) Warner. He was predeceased by his brothers Robert of West Hartford, Carl of Phoenix, Ariz. and Irving of Van Nuys, Calif.

Harold graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1944. After graduation, he moved to Millerton, N.Y. In 1950 he was drafted into the army during the Korean War and served in a transportation unit in Newfoundland and Labrador, earning the rank of sergeant.

After leaving the service, Harold made his permanent home in Millerton for more than 50 years. He became a businessman and partner in Decker's Laundry and Cleaners in Lakeville.

Upon his retirement in 1995, Harold was an active volunteer with the Red Cross and served as deputy mayor of Millerton. He tended to the Veterans Park on Main Street, watering flowers and weeding the beds.

Harold was known for his famous fried chicken and helped with a chicken fry each summer to benefit the Masonic Lodge and the Millerton Library. The Millerton Lions Club honored him for his contributions to the town with its highest honor of Citizen of the Year in 1999.

Harold was also active in Congregation Beth David in Amenia, N.Y., serving as president for many years. He was a mason and was active in the Webotuck Lodge.

Harold is survived by his daughter, Robin Faust and her husband Craig of Goshen, Conn.; his son Richard Warner of Manhattan; his grandsons Justin and Kyle Faust; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Sons of Jacob Cemetery, Winsted Road, Torrington, Conn. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Congregation Beth David, P.O. Box 125, 3344 East Main St., Amenia, NY 12501; the Millerton Volunteer Fire Department, 24 Century Blvd., Millerton, NY 12546; a charity of choice or you may honor Harold by performing an act of kindness to someone in need.
